Christy James Guepet, M.D., FACOG, FPMRS

Medical Advisor

Dr. Christy James Guepet is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in obstetrics and gynecology as well as female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. She is also a certified menopause specialist. She is co-owner of Southern Women’s Specialists and co-host of the This Is Menopause podcast. Dr. Guepet is also a woman who has experienced menopause, which informs her approach to caring for people during perimenopause and menopause. She aims to provide evidence-based information, individualized care, and a judgment-free environment for the people she serves.

Earlier in her career, she practiced as a surgical gynecologist, performing robotic hysterectomies, advanced laparoscopic surgery, and urogynecologic reconstruction. She later chose to focus her practice entirely on the individualized care of people during perimenopause and menopause.

Dr. Guepet grew up in Andalusia, Alabama. She graduated from Duke University and completed medical school and residency training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She later established her practice in Fairhope, Alabama, where she and her medical partner, Dr. Angela McCool-Pearson, built Southern Women’s Specialists around the care they believe people in midlife and beyond deserve.

Throughout her career, Dr. Guepet has advocated for hormone replacement therapy, including testosterone therapy when clinically appropriate. She has seen the effects of delayed treatment, fear surrounding hormone therapy, and limited access to evidence-based information in those navigating menopause. Those experiences continue to shape her work and her approach to menopause care.

Dr. Guepet is a member of The Menopause Society and the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH). She co-hosts the This Is Menopause podcast with Dr. Pearson and partners with MyHealthTeam to help expand access to evidence-based menopause education.

Although Dr. Guepet describes herself as someone who is not naturally comfortable in front of a camera or with self-promotion, she continues to speak publicly because she believes menopause education is important. Her years in clinical practice have shown her how meaningful change can occur when people receive accurate information, individualized care, and ongoing support.

One principle that guides Dr. Guepet’s work is that connection is an important part of health and well-being. She believes people experiencing menopause benefit from sharing experiences, offering support, and learning from one another. She also recognizes that social media and artificial intelligence can both connect people and expose them to misinformation, particularly when they are searching for answers during vulnerable moments. At Southern Women’s Specialists, fostering meaningful connections among people at every stage of the menopause transition is a central part of the practice’s mission. Dr. Guepet believes her partnership with MyHealthTeam supports that goal by helping more people access science-based information and clinical guidance while building community.

Dr. Guepet encourages people to understand that feeling better is possible, although it often takes time, patience, and a personalized approach to care. She believes menopause management is not a quick fix but an ongoing relationship between a person, their healthcare professional, and their own body. Over decades in practice, she has found that people who remain engaged, ask questions, and continue working with their healthcare team are often best able to achieve their treatment goals.

Outside of her practice and podcast, Dr. Guepet enjoys spending time with her husband, Tray, and their family. She enjoys traveling, gardening, watching sunsets, and discussing women’s health around the kitchen table. She also says her faith guides her work and reinforces her belief that people experiencing menopause deserve better access to high-quality, evidence-based care.
